Fire Prevention Bureau : Fire Inspections
The Fire Prevention Bureau serves the citizens of our community by regularly inspecting commercial and public buildings for fire hazards. All inspections are conducted using the International Fire Code with North Carolina Amendments, State Building Code, and fifteen volumes of the National Fire Protection Code (NFPA) referenced and requirements by State Laws.
The stated inspections find many violations. Some minor and many that can present a serious problem. Looking for violations such as Fire extinguishers due for service, Exit and Emergency lighting not working properly, Fire alarm and sprinkler systems not tested. These are only a few of the areas that are inspected each year for safety and code enforcement.
It is realized that inspections can’t prevent all fires but are a reasonable effort to control factors and conditions in an ever increasing complicated world that poses new and different situations for fire prevention personnel and is the most cost efficient form of fire protection.
