Department : Fire & Rescue

Welcome to Shelby Fire & Rescue Department. We are located in the North Carolina foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and forty two miles west of Charlotte. The department maintains three stations with a staff of fifty three employees covering approximately twenty square miles.

It is the mission of the Fire Department to respond to and mitigate emergencies involving incidents of fire, entrapment of persons, unplanned releases of dangerous goods and pre-hospital emergency medical incidents in addition to providing for the prevention and education of the general public to ensure their safety from similar emergencies.

The Fire Marshal's Office inspects public occupancies such as schools, institutions and industries to ensure planned, orderly responses to fire emergencies.

The Public Education Officer teaches fire safety classes to elementary school students in the Shelby City limits. Approximately 4,000 men, women and children were affected by various forms of our public education efforts.
