South Lafayette Street, which has been closed to through traffic between Broad Street and Morton Street due to waterline replacement work, will reopen on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. 

The City of Shelby Waterline Project is substantially complete, and final cleanup for the project will be performed on October 7 and 8. Please use caution during this time, as work crews will still be in the area. 

NCDOT has a contract to pave South Lafayette Street from Broad Street to College Avenue.
