The City's system consists of 510 miles of gas mains, 248 miles of gas service lines and 9,891 gas customers. We have two feeder lines from our supplier, Williams Transco Gas Pipeline, that runs from Grover, NC to Shelby. We have 3 major and 38 secondary regulator stations to keep constant pressure in our lines.
We serve the City of Shelby as well as Earl, Waco, Fallston, Lawndale, Polkville, Kingstown, Lattimore, Moss Lake, part of Patterson Springs and Boiling Springs, and surrounding areas in the county. To view our general service area, click here.
Natural Gas Safety
Shelby's Natural Gas Department operates under numerous stringent federal regulations. The system is maintained by 14 employees plus administrative support. Our goal is to provide a continuous supply of clean energy source to Shelby and Cleveland County. We strive to do this as safely and efficiently as we possibly can.
SOAR Designation
The City of Shelby Natural Gas Department is a System Operational Achievement Recognition (SOAR) designated utility. American Public Gas Association's SOAR program acknowledges public natural gas systems that have achieved excellence in the operation of their natural gas utility. APGA member systems take great pride in their ability to deliver natural gas safely and efficiently to over 5 million customers in 38 states.
