The History of the Hotel Charles
Originally built in the late 1800s as the Central Hotel, and later named the Hotel Charles, the three-story building was damaged by a fire in 1928. After re-opening in 1929 the hotel was renamed the Charles Hotel and continued to operate until 1967.
At some point after the hotel closed, the restaurant, named Corfu, continued to operate until the death of the owner in approximately 1982. It sat vacant until a local business occupied the lobby, dining rooms, and kitchen from 1986 until 2016.
