The City of Shelby’s Finance Department consists of three divisions.

They are Customer Services, Purchasing, and Accounting.

Customer Services is the main point of contact for most of our utilities customers. They are located in City Hall at 300 South Washington Street. They are responsible for setting up new accounts for utility customers. They prepare and collect utility bills for all our utility customers and handle any billing or collections concerns. They also bill and collect for privilege licenses and local liquor licenses. Meter reading is also a part of this division and they read approximately 30,000 utility meters a month so that correct utility bills can be sent out to our customers.

Purchasing provides centralized purchasing services for all the departments of the city. They are located in the Utility Operation Center at 824 West Grover Street. Purchasing is responsible for the warehouse and inventory lots for all four of the city’s utilities. Purchasing also acts as the centralized receiving point for many of the city’s deliveries. Purchasing also handles the sell of surplus city equipment.

Accounting performs all accounting and financial reporting activity of the city, including cash disbursements. Accounting is located in City Hall at 300 South Washington Street. Accounting also handles other financial related activities such as budget preparation and administration, treasury management, and debt management, as well as preparing the city’s comprehensive annual financial report.
