The Fire Marshal's Office investigates all fires in the city to determine cause and origin.  Staff members are credentialed through the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI).  The Fire Marshal's Office coordinates  with the Shelby Police Department's  Criminal Investigations Division (CID), the  North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM), the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) in the investigation of fires in the city.
