Home MenuAuthorization to Act
The Authorization to Act as Agent form authorizes Shelby Police Officer to enforce North Carolina General Statutes on private property in the absence of the property owner. This is a tool for our officers to enforce trespassing laws on private property at times when the property owner is not present. In order for the trespassing law to be enforced, a "No Trespassing" sign(s) must be installed in a prominate location that states the property is "Private Property", the hours that no trespassing is allowed (i.e. non-business hours or anytime), and a statement that violators will be prosecuted.
The Authorization to Act as Agent form is valid from the date the form is signed until the following June 30 at midnight. The form must be updated annually by the property owner.
A completed and notarized form can be returned to the Shelby Police Department at 130 West Warren Street, Shelby, NC 28150. Notary services are available by appointment by calling 704.484.6845 and asking to speak with a Communications Supervisor. You can also email any requests by CLICKING HERE.
