Trash Trout Installation - May 10, 2022
The City of Shelby’s Stormwater Division partnered with David Caldwell, Broad Riverkeeper, to install a Trash Trout device in Hickory Creek on Kings Road in Shelby, on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. It is the only device of its kind in Cleveland County, and is useful for collecting trash and debris that floats down the creek.
The Trash Trout will be a helpful tool in preventing collected trash and debris from continuing downstream and contaminating our waterways. For more information on the Trash Trout, and for tips on protecting our waterways, visit the City of Shelby's Stormwater Homepage, or contact stormwater@cityofshelby.com.
We would like to thank the team at Asheville GreenWorks for building, delivering, and directing the installation of our Trash Trout. Special thanks to employees from the Public Works Department for their assistance with the installation.
Trash Trout Cleanout - May 31, 2022
The new Trash Trout is working well in our efforts to keep our waterways clean. On May 31, three weeks after the unit was installed, Tyler Brooks from the City of Shelby, and David Caldwell, Broad Riverkeeper-MountainTrue, met to clean out the Trash Trout for the first time. They collected approximately 50 pounds of trash, including 12 balls, and 21 plastic bottles.
