The First Broad River Trail has been temporarily closed to the public due to damage caused by the recent storm. The City of Shelby will post updates on the progress of repairs and will notify the public when the trail has reopened.
This section of the Carolina Thread Trail is a natural surface 1.5 mile trail which follows the First Broad River in Shelby, NC. The river outlook is perfect for wildlife and bird viewing, and a hand-carry boat launch conveniently located near the trailhead parking lot offers easy access for paddling. The trail is ideal for walkers, joggers, and cyclists of all ages and fitness levels. A ramp decking system winds up to the newly completed suspension bridge, which stretches 170' over the First Broad River at the trail head.
