The Charles Road Memorial Firehouse is located at 303 Charles Road and serves as a "company house" for the city's west side. The station is named in memory of four Shelby firefighters and a utilities gas worker killed in the line of duty on May 25, 1979 at a fire in Uptown Shelby. Engine Company 32 is based out of this facility. Additionally, the departments swift water rescue resources are staged here due to the proximity to the First Broad and Broad rivers.
