Code Enforcement enforces the City of Shelby Code of Ordinance. Common nuisances code enforcement officers look for are:
- High grass, weeds, undergrowth/vegetation
- Junk/inoperative vehicles
- Accumulation of trash, furniture, and/or non-building material item
- Unsanitary, hazardous, and dangerous conditions
- Overgrown, littered vacant lots
- Accumulation of animal or vegetable matter, solid wastes, or stagnant water
- Vacant, open, abandoned and/or dilapidated buildings/structures
- Broken window glass
- Numerous other deficiencies which render properties substandard or unsafe to its occupants or the general public
